Make the Most from Your Visit to Westport Mini Maker Faire 2016

Saturday is the fifth annual Westport Mini Maker Faire.  We have a record number of activities and things for people of all ages to see and do.

We are also expecting a record 10,000 attendees to Connecticut’s largest event focused on creativity and innovation!

Here’s how you can make the most of your visit on Saturday, whether you’re coming for some or all of the day.

What to Do and See
Boy, where to begin?  There will be robots, 3D printers, artists, scientists, musicians, farmers, boats, Boy Scouts, Maker Spaces, K12, college students, innovative businesses, medical exhibits and even the Westport Police and Fire Departments showcasing their stuff.

The schedule of events is as follows:

  • 9:45 am Opening Ceremonies
  • 10 am – 4 pm Maker Faire Open

Getting to the Faire
The address for your

GPS is 20 Jesup Rd, Westport, CT  06880.

With 10,000 people expected, we have taken some innovative steps to ease access to and from the Faire.

 If you live close enough, please walk.

 If you drive, view the parking and trolley map.  We have free shuttles courtesy of Building and Land Technology that will run continuously from 9 am – 5 pm.

The routes are:
Downtown:  Westport Country Playhouse, Saugatuck Congregational Church, Town Hall, then the Maker Faire.

 Train Station:  Westport Train Station to Maker Faire.

 Both shuttle services are free and will run continuously from 9 am – 5 pm.

 If you want to ride but don’t want to park, we have partnered with Uber.  Sign up for your free account at:  https://get.uber.com/go/WMMF2016 or use the Promo Code WMMF2016.  Your first ride up to $20 is free.  If you and someone else each sign up for a new account, you can each receive $20 worth of first rides free.

 Food
We have six different food companies offering food at the Faire.  Find them in the Food Court.

What’s an Artbot?
An Artbot is a culmination of Art, Technology,Community, and Maker Spirit. Individual or teams of artists and makers are challenged to create works of art that integrate interactive, kinetic frameworks with 2d or 3d art—the Artbot!

The Artbot brigade will march at the fifth annual Westport Mini Maker Faire on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Westport Public Library and Jesup Green in Westport, CT.

The call for Makers for the 2016 Westport Mini Maker Faire is now open!

Westport Mini Maker Faire organizers announce the fifth annual Call for Makers, an invitation for creative, innovative people and companies to apply to participate in the fifth annual Mini Maker Faire on Saturday, April 30, from 10 am to 4 pm at the Westport Library and on adjacent grounds.

The Westport Mini Maker Faire, produced by Remarkable STEAM in partnership with the Westport Library, is Connecticut’s largest event focused on creativity and innovation. Every year, it attracts tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, artists, hobbyists, engineers, scientists, students, teachers, food artisans and commercial exhibitors. All are invited to show their wares, inventions and creations by applying at http://bit.ly/WMMF2016CallForMakers or at www.westportmakerfaire.org.

Westport’s Mini Maker Faire is a free, family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness. Attendees flock to the event to glimpse at the future and find the inspiration to become makers themselves.

This year marks the 5th Anniversary of the Westport Mini Maker Faire, and the organizing committee wanted to do something special to raise awareness.  As I sat in a meeting a few months ago – inspiration hit me: A giant Roman numeral 5, with some cool lighting effects inside. It’s on display now in the Library’s ground-floor level near the steps to the cafe (also featured recently on Dan Woog’s blog)

The Maker Faire: Special Workshop & Events Schedule

The Maker Faire is FREE and you can REGISTER for free tickets online here. 
 
Workshop in the Seminar Room: 

1:30-3 pm: Introductory Arduino Workshop–Registration required.

Vijay Rao will lead this workshop for beginners. Participants should come to the workshop with a computer loaded with the Arduino software ready to work with the micro-controller board and learn about electrical circuits and programming. This session is limited to 10 people, so register now! There are 10 kits available for use by the 10 participants. Register here.

Fred Kahl, aka Coney Island’s famed Great Fredini, will discuss his exploration of 3D printing including the invention of his open source hardware full body scanning rig, Scan-A-Rama 3D Portrait Studio, and the creation of the “Worlds Largest Desktop 3D Printed Art Installation,” a 1:13 scale model of Coney Island’s Luna Park as it stood 100 years ago.
